China’s Trina Solar secures 100-MW contract with SunSource Energy

China’s Trina Solar secures

Chinese solar panel manufacturer, Trina Solar, on Thursday said it has secured its first 100-megawatt-plus (MW) contract in India for its new solar modules with energy and storage solutions provider, SunSource Energy. The firm would start the shipment of modules in the fourth quarter of 2020, according to the press release. “This is the first 100-MW-plus contract in India for Trina Solar’s new Vertex modules. The fact that such a large order for Vertex modules has come from India says a lot about the demand for renewable energy in this market,” said Helena Li, president-Asia Pacific, Trina Solar.

The Noida-based firm had placed an order for 105 MW of Vertex bifacial modules,  which it would be using for projects across multiple states in India. She added that in the Indian market, there has been a lot of interest and demand for the Vertex bifacial modules. “Going forward, we foresee continuous strong demand for high power solar modules and the reason for this is the Indian market is highly competitive, and conscious of the product performance, balance of system (BOS) and levelised.

The vertex modules are higher power modules in which there is no need to have as many modules to achieve the desired total power output for the project, the Chinese firm said in its release. “This in turn reduces BOS cost. Fewer modules equates to fewer mounting systems, less cabling, fewer junction boxes, fewer man hours required for installation and less land required for the project,” she added. These modules are based on monocrystalline PERC cell, multi-busbars, three-cut cell, and dual-glass platform technology. Kushagra Nandan, president and co-founder, SunSource Energy, said that the bifacial technology adds glass-on-glass durability to the highly-proven monoPERC with Trina’s scale benefits, and would allow the firm to utilise reflected radiation. “We believe this has the potential to be a game changer, and we intend to use these modules for our projects across the country,” he added. According to Trina Solar, the new Vertex series of modules have a conversion
efficiency rate of up to 21 per cent and can deliver more than 500 Watt of power
from the front surface.
